My Moon Shots
At my location in Kansas, at 6:15 AM, the moon was just above moonset. The clouds were just beginning to clear. This is my best shot of todays Supermoon.
It did seem larger. And it was beautiful. But much detail was lost with the red haze. I will try again tonight, with a tripod timed exposure. But clouds are forecast again.

Nice shots — I like the lighting, with just enough natural light to trip the lens and to give the rest of the shot some definition!
@slmret - Yes I was hoping that there would be more natural light with the rising of the sun but I could tell the moon would be set before the sun and clouds/haze cleared. Settled for these. It was very beautiful with its red tint. My night shots in darkness usually turn out underexposed. I will give it a few seconds time exposure tonight if I don’t go to sleep before it rises high in the night sky.
Beautiful. I like the pink hue. I was in Kansas once to perform at the University at Lawrence. We arrived at the airport in St. Louis after dark and were driven from there to Lawrence. The night was beautiful. Most of the drive was on a highway with little traffic. I’ll never forget an exit sign we passed along way, “Evening Star Road”. It sounded enchanting on an already beautiful night.
I have trouble getting good moon shots. When I do get a good shot I am surprised. Lol.
@TheSutraDude - My granddaughter is second year of college there.
@buddy71 - Just like ya, I think a long lens is needed to get it greater than the thumbnail size. I used a 300mm just to get it to look the size that my naked eye imagined it.
@Iamsurrounded - Awesome. I fell in love with the campus and the students there. The audience and the hospitality we received was wonderful. I’ll also never forget signs that flanked every door of the auditorium entrance, “In case of severe weather….” I knew that meant tornadoes. The signs gave me pause to think because I don’t live in a tornado area.
Wow! I love the colors and how crystal clear it looks! Great job John!
@heart_beep - Thank you Jill! long time no see. thanks for stopping, we miss you!
