Follow Me Today…
Tuesday December 14, 2010
Feeling bad…
I’ll tell ya feeling bad….
wake up without a dime to your name
Or a bed to call your own
No place to clean up, your clothes or your faceI’ll show ya feeling bad…..
Just need a job …
work your ass off
for a day of poor wages ….
But no chance of making it betterHell no…no chance of makin’ it better..
with worn out clothes and shoes…
the only livin thing that talks at ya and smiles
is a dog that’s only lookin for a meal
and a box as warm as yoursfollow me today….
I’ll show ya feeling bad…
all that I own in a shoppin’ bag,
a pair of socks and a book..
a book to read to feel I’m still aliveDon’t read no long words to me
For now I’m alive without them…..
I’ll listen for the soup but the soup is thin,
as thin as the platitudes it’s made from
and the stench of your Holy speaksay your words ….
give your sour looks…
when you leave look back.
yeah..I’ll still be here feeling bad …
yeah.. follow me todayfollow me today…
like the shadows behind me
talking in my ear so loud,
shoutin’ my name,
tellin’ me to keep movin’ or die..yeah….follow me today….

I knew a man, once who spent two years living under a turnpike bridge, said he’s sooner go to jail than go back under that bridge…
This poem has a jagged edge of desperation that snags the reader and threatens to cut. Well done.
Heartwrenching – too many sing this song…
@SandraErickson @murisopsis - - Another found dead in a prosperous community south of us. It’s so darn cold and the shelters are full. I read that it is like that in most cities again this winter.
Beautfilly said for a sad and very REAL problem. I’ll follow and reach out an understanding hand. Many of us are a month away from homelessness. My children are more aware than I ever was as a child.
@Jaynebug - So many have no place to go.This can befall on any of us, children may sense it even if its not talked about. Thank you Bugzy..
I have to tell you…I am not a fan of poetry. But, this grabbed me in the first stanza. Excellent job when you can touch someone like me with a poem.
@crankycaregiver - Thanks for the Mini and Rec! I’m glad it grabbed you!
haunting. i used to work in san francisco, and remember too well the homeless, on my way to work. haunting guilt that i turned away so much of the time.
@Bels_Kaylar - I think we all have a bit of guilt. The problem is in every city that I travel.
