  • Willow’s Shallow Roots

Pour upon pour the water runs.
Raised from deep aquifers of an ocean’s width far below,
water gathered from slow flowing glaciers and northern winter snows,
drawn up sweet and ultraviolet blue.

Clear and cool and wet it flows..
Seeping between the brittle blades of dusty grass,
soaking deeply beneath the stolon’s underbelly and awaking the June grubs.

The willow’s shallow roots sip away the moist ooze,
filling its veins and leaves with green liquid being.

Black birds still search skyward for the long awaited rain.

    DSS.

  • I so identify with the crows – and I’m still scanning the sky in hope of a rain cloud heavy laden…

  • yes, I am also fond of those crows. Miss T and I went to Connecticut last weekend thinking we would spend some time on the beach – and we did, but only briefly, the weather cold and rainy the first day. And it will rain here, at home today too, but for that I am most grateful. Sending soggy thoughts (drawn up sweet and ultraviolet blue) your way.

  • @murisopsis - No rain in sight for us. A repeat of last year, this could get old!

  • @SandraErickson - Thank you Sandra, oh what I’d give for a walk on the beach on a cold rainy day! I”m soaking up your soggy thoughts.
